Treat Tuesday

Pierre: Check it out! Our friends at the Chewy.com blogger outreach program sent us something to taste test.

Pierre and Chewy Box

They are 100% beef liver from Evangers. The photographer likes that they are a single-source food, which is good to have available if anyone eating them has a sensitive digestive system.

Evangers Beef Liver Treats

Ashton and Pierre: We don’t care what’s in them. They smell good, and we want to taste!

Ashton and Pierre Sniff Evangers

Ashton: This thing looks really big. Maybe it was meant for a much bigger cat than me.

Ashton Sniffs big treat

Holy cat! I have to chew hard to eat this huge thing!

image017

Yes, Ashton took the whole treat while we were demonstrating its size and proceeded to chew and chew and chew and chew until she managed to eat it all. While she was under observation to make sure she didn’t choke on it, Newton got impatient and found the open container and stole a big treat, too.

Newton: *bite* *drop* *bite* *drop* This is TOO BIG!

Pierre: This isn’t as exciting as I thought it was going to be.

Pierre looks on as Newt struggles with huge treat

These didn’t cut as easily as expected. It turns out that they will cut reasonably easily one direction, but not against the grain of the dried meat. The treats could also be soaked in water to reconstitute them, but treats are open-and-eat affairs around here, so we stuck with leaving them dry to simulate the way that we would normally eat them.

Cut treat

Newton: Thank Cod. I had started to think I was going to have to order out for pizza.

Final opinion from the cats: Ashton and Newton were two enthusiastic paws up. Pierre decided that it smelled better than it tasted. And the photographer decided that the oversized treats that can’t be broken by hand are tasty occasionally, but aren’t a good solution if you need a quick treat before the peeps head out the door to go somewhere.

Thanks for sharing this extra, liver-flavored bit of holiday cheer with us, Chewy.com!

We Love our Secret Paws!

Newton: Our Secret Paws package arrived, and look at the card that was inside. It’s from Truffle and Brulee at Sweet Purrfections. I think they’re both dreamy ladycats.

Newton with Truffle and Brulee Card

Everything is wrapped individually to keep us in suspense. Oh, unwrap it, unwrap it!

Pierre: There are catnip flavored Tempations in here. Catnip flavored treats. Everybody can raise your paws and step away right now. These are mine.

Pierre breaks into the temptations 2

I’m helping myself to them and *crunch crunch* they’re soooo good.

Pierre Breaks into the Temptations

Ashton: Please excuse the blurry photo. That’s what happens when you bite the photographer.

Ashton Bites Temptations

Newton: Check this out. It’s a mouse without stuffing. The only photo of me playing with it is of me sniffing it because I was moving too fast to get a good photo as soon as I started playing with it. This is now one of my favorite toys EVER.

Newton and the Skinneez

Ashton: Canned food. Hooray! I’m a girl who doesn’t like to miss a meal. And I’m going to check out the unstuffed mouse while Newton is distracted, too.

Ashton and the food and skinneez

Ashton: I love the mint stick toy! Truffle and Brulee, you probably don’t know this, but when I was a little, injured kitten living in a cage, I had one of those, and it was my very favorite toy. I haven’t seen one in a long time, and I am so happy to have one to play with again!

Ashton and the Mint Stick

This is really cool. It’s a package of toys from Brumby’s Yarns, a company we had never heard of before.

BrumbysYarns

Newton: Come on, I don’t have thumbs. Open it up!

Newton and BrumbysYarns

Look how cool these are. One of them is even an Oreo cookie!

BrumbysYarns02

Ashton: You can’t fool me. It doesn’t smell like an Oreo cookie.

Newton likes these toys like crazy, as you can see…

Newton: OMC, there’s a disco mouse! I’m not even going to let anybody take it off of the packaging. It’s mineminemine.

Pierre: You just bring that catnip pawbreakers ball right over here. I’m going to drool all over it so that everybody knows whose it is.

Pierre and the Pawbreakers Ball

There was more that didn’t make it into the photo… springs, that enthusiastically scattered under the furniture immediately, and for the head peep, a beautiful notebook she is going to use to take notes at work.

Thank you so much, Truffle, Brulee, and Mom Paula. We love everything in the package, and we promise to get Pierre started on a nip twelve step program soon. Thank you so much for getting such a wonderful gift to us, and thank you for organizing Secret Paws for all of us!

Happy National Cat Herders Day!

December 15 is National Cat Herders Day. Invented by Wellcat, this holiday, according to their web site:

If you can say that your job, or even your life, is like trying to herd cats, then this day is for you, with our sympathy.

Of course, we herd cats here on this blog every day, so we think every day is National Cat Herders Day.

“Sit in the box for a photo, Newton!”

Newton in Box Outtake

That didn’t work out quite as planned.

“Hey, Ashton, you love a box. Come pose for us!”

Ashton and box outtake

Guess she’s being a diva today.

“You’ll come through for us, Pierre. Sit down and look at the camera.”

Pierre in box outtake 01
“No, at the camera…”

Pierre in box outtake 02

“Kitties? Anykitty? Hello?”

Box

As you can see, we herd cats here all the time!

No mention of National Cat Herders Day would be complete without a shout out to our favorite cat herders of all, the EDS Superbowl commercial from 2000 with cowboys herding cats:

(If the video doesn’t display for you, you can click here to view it on YouTube.)

However you herd cats today, we know you’ll do it in style. And if necessary, herd your humans instead. We usually do.

The Toy Cold Shoulder

You know you’ve done it. The peeps find you a toy that they are sure you’ll love. It’s going to be the greatest thing ever. Then… not so much.

Pierre: What’s this? It has feathers, so maybe it will be fun. Pierre examining the toy 01

I will pose nicely several feet from the toy. Is that good enough?

Pierre ignoring the toy

Newton and Pierre: Watch us both ignore the toy at the same time. Teamwork!

Newton and Pierre Ignore the Toy 01

Newton: It has feathers, but I’m not looking.

Newton ignoring the toy

Okay, maybe I’m looking. A little bit.

Newton examining the toy 01

Ashton: Hey, what do you have?

Newton examining the toy 02b

Ashton: *sniff, sniff*

Ashton Examining The Toy

Nope.

Ashton gives the toy the cold shoulder

The peeps are mystified about how anything with feathers could get three strikes from us. We think it’s important to always keep them guessing. Don’t you?
