Late Night with Newton

Newton: The head peep fell asleep with the light on, and when she woke up in the middle of the night, she saw this.

Newton late at night in his bed

I was awake in my bed, watching her adoringly. Okay, maybe I was actually just hoping she was going to go to the kitchen for a midnight snack I could share. But don’t burst her bubble about the adoringly thing.

Thank You, Chewy!

Only the handful of you who follow the head peep on Twitter probably know this, but it was a rough week here last week. Our house got hit by lightning on Monday, and we spent the whole week finding things that didn’t survive the strike. By Friday, the head peep was really glad it was the end of the week. She came trudging up to the front door in the rain, because that’s what afternoon weather does in Florida this time of year, and she was surprised to see a box from Chewy.com waiting under the eaves.

We had just gotten a shipment from them the middle of the week, and she thought hard to remember whether anything had been left out of the previous shipment. Meanwhile, she was getting wetter and wetter in the rain while she thought. This is why we are the cats and she’s the human. Cats wouldn’t stand in the rain thinking.

Newton: Get in here already! What are you waiting for?

Newton in the window - a photo from last year. If the head peep doesn't have the sense to come in out of the rain, at least she didn't expose her phone to it to snap a photo of Newton.

She brought the box in and opened it to find a very nice note from Andrew and the team at Chewy thanking her for participating in the blogging program. What an unexpected surprise!

Pierre: While you’re reading that note, I’m just going to see what’s in here, okay? Read as slowly as you want so you don’t notice if I steal the good stuff.

Newton: Check out the packing material! This is awesome! If I run through the house with some of this, it’s going to decorate everything!

Ashton: Is this all for ME?

ty_chewy04_sm

Newton: No, Ash, we all get to share.

Ashton: But…

Newton: Hey, this is taking the sharing thing a little far! I don’t think those are going to fit me.

A big thank you to team Chewy for the surprise package. We can’t wait to dig into the treats and share them with our cousins, too. You had no idea what a bad week the head peep was having, but extra thanks for making her smile when she really needed it.

(But could you ask her to stop trying to make us wear the sunglasses, please?)

The Not-Real Bug Thing

Newton: OMC, what is that thing?

Newton_and_electric_bug02_sm

And where does it think it’s going?

Newton_and_electric_bug03_sm

Hello, thing? Are you there, thing? Get out from under my sofa!

Newton_and_electric_bug04_sm

Hey, it worked! Maybe I should ask the thing to bring me some treats if it’s that obedient.

Newton_and_electric_bug05_sm

Thing, the treats are the other way, in the kitchen. Thing? Thing?

Newton_and_electric_bug06_sm

That thing doesn’t listen any better than Ashton does.

Schedule Change

Newton: Can we talk?

Newton_looks_up_by_tree_sm

Newton: You may not realize it, but we’ve been blogging really steadily for the past few years. The last time we took a single day off was over a year ago. We love coming to your mailbox or blog reader every day, and we are always excited to have you visit, too! But here’s the thing: We’re cats, and we need a lot of sleep, and all of this work isn’t letting us get it. Humans are unruly and generally exhausting, and this supervising to make sure that the head peep gets work done is even more exhausting. Have you ever watched other people work? It wears you right out.

Pierre: What do you want to do about it, Newt?

Newton: We’re going to take weekends off of blogging.

Pierre. What?!

Pierre_looks_intent_sm

Newton: Don’t worry. we aren’t going anywhere. We have exciting plans for things we want to share with you in the weeks and months ahead. You will still be able to read our Topical Thursdays every week, and see what Pierre, Ashton, and I are up to. But mostly me, because I know you really come here to see me.

Pierre: *sighs* It isn’t all about you, Newton.

Newton: That’s what you think! It’s always all about me!

Newton_sits_upright_bed_sm

Pierre: If we aren’t blogging, what are we going to be doing on the weekends now?

Newton: I’m sure you’ll think of something.

Pierre: I’ll think about it while I take this nap.

Pierre_chills_on_unmade_bed_sm

Newton: I think he’s going to do a lot more of that once he figures it out. Have a good weekend, everykitty. We’ll see you on Monday!
