Triple Vet Visit

Both Pierre and Newton went to visit the vet the same day last week. Pierre was scheduled for his six month senior exam, and Newton was scheduled for a dental cleaning.

One of the fun things about going to our vet is seeing the names of the other cats who are coming in that day. I want to meet the person who named their cat Xanax. Not to mention Kittenator!

Pierre got examined first thing. He was such a good boy for his weigh in.

I had been worried that he may have lost weight, but it was only a fraction of an ounce. If he hadn’t had to skip breakfast because of Newton’s dental, he probably would have weighed more than during his last visit.

He was really patient for the rest of his exam, too.

Pierre: It would be okay if we just skipped this part, though. I’m perfect!

While getting Newton’s paperwork in order for his dental procedure, I let him out of his carrier for a few minutes. He took the opportunity to check on his brother.

Newton: What are you in for?  Orange tabby cat looks into sleepypod carrier at gray tabby cat

Usually, when Newton is loose in the exam room, he is running all over, and he is especially trying to get out the back door to the procedure area. It was interesting to see him choosing to stay close to Pierre, instead.

Newton: Don’t worry, I know the way out. It’s that door. My girlfriend lives back there.

Pierre: I’m fine right here, thanks.

Newton’s dental went fine, and he has nice, clean teeth now.

When it was time to pick him up, I brought Cupcake with me for a weigh-in. People have been asking me how much she weighs recently, and I didn’t know, so this was an opportunity to find out. She weighs almost 8 lbs now!

She considered climbing up onto Dr. Avok’s shoulder until she realized “You aren’t my human!”

New Year’s Resolutions

Ashton: It’s the beginning of the year, and that means it’s time for everyone to make some resolutions.

Cupcake: What’s a resolution, Miss Ashton?

Ashton: It’s when you decide what you’re going to do this year. Like I resolve to build my first outlet of Ashton’s Chicken Emporium this year.

Cupcake: What if you don’t do the resolution? Does something bad happen?

Ashton: Nothing happens. Humans don’t keep their resolutions most of the time, so if we don’t, it’s okay.

Cupcake: Well in that case, I resolve to learn to wear hats. I really don’t like hats, but the humans really want me to wear them.

Newton: Don’t give in about the hat, kid. Trust me.

Cupcake: Do you have a resolution, Mr. Newton?

Newton: I resolve to let you catch my glorious tail. Once. Maybe.

Pierre: None of you are taking this seriously.

Ashton: You can say that wearing that hat?

Pierre: I resolve to give the humans lots more cuddles this year.

Cupcake: That sounds like a resolution we can all keep, Mr. Pierre.

All of you hope you have a wonderful year ahead, full of laughter and love. And cat cuddles, too.

Cupcake is a Cat Going Places

If you follow us on social media, you got a preview of this news last week: Cupcake is one of the stars of a new web site, Cats Going Places. This new web site is a growing resource for people who want to learn more about taking their cats with them around the city or suburbs.

We all know that Cupcake is already a pro at running errands and visiting friends around town, and now she can share some of her adventures and the lessons that she and the humans around her are learning in a centralized place.

So far, you can read more about Cupcake and get to know more about her story. This site isn’t just going to be about Cupcake, so you can also read about Chanel, Cupcake’s sister, who lives in Ohio.

You can also get tips about how to be a polite visitor to pet-friendly places. There’s a lot to remember, but cats visiting pet-friendly establishments are the first ambassadors of their kind, so it’s important that they make a good impression so that other cats are welcome later.

There is even information about the kind of harness Cupcake wears.

Stay tuned at Cats Going Places for a new article weekly featuring information for cats on the go from Cupcake, Chanel, and other cats on the go.

Secret Paw Fun

You may remember we packed up a Secret Paw package away earlier this month. We received one in the mail from our very own Secret Paw friend, Cathy Keisha from Stunning Keisha. The box smelled really interesting, but we weren’t allowed to open it until Christmas morning.

Pierre: Is it time yet? We have been waiting so long!

Newton: It’s time, all right, and I’m not waiting for anyone to open this stocking for me, either.

Cupcake: Mr. Newton, is that how this works?

Newton: Kind of busy over here right now, kid.

Pierre: I didn’t think you liked falerian, Newton.

Newton: Like it? This stuff is top shelf! Our friend CK picks only the best.

Newton: Back off, Pierre. I’m not sharing any of these toys.

Pierre: Can I at least look at the card?

Newton: Maybe when I’m done with it.

Pierre: You’re a mean drunk, Newt. We’re going to have to cut off your valerian.

Cupcake: There’s a toy shaped like a coffee cup, all for me. And guess what? It made me find out I like catnip!

Cupcake: Watch out, world. Catnip-filled kitten on the loose!

Everyone: Cupcake! That’s not yours!

Ashton: This is what I’m talking about. Chicken — hey, wait a minute. That doesn’t smell like chicken.

Ashton: THAT smells like chicken. Watch your fingers!

Pierre: I get the best part of the gift. I get the box!

Thank you, CK, you really outdid yourself. We love everything, and you made our Christmas very special!
