Newton: With the ess? It’s supposed to be mancat Monday with me!
Because I am Newton, King of the Ess!
Laugh. Learn. Love cats.
Newton: We know that the blogosphere likes Thursday in the Garden, but the head peep worked in the garden yesterday, and I helped. Well, I provided supervision from the safety of behind the screened door.
The garden needed it, too. Good help is so hard to find.
I settled in to my supervisory duties.
The head peep doesn’t like gardening, and some of the things I heard her say made my ears burn. I heard her say something about paving over the garden when she was digging up the big mess of weed-infested shrubs.
And look what she found when she pulled the shrubs out!
Are you going to bring that over here to me? It looks like fun!
She didn’t. Good help really is hard to find.
She kept on working on the garden. After a while, she started talking about filling it up with rocks and artificial plants instead of dirt.
Then she found another snake.
Ashton: That looks like a string!
Pierre: You’re going to bring that to us, right?
Newton: Hey, whose story is this?
Pierre: Newton doesn’t know how to share toys, either.
Newton: *sighs* Finally, after two snakes that never came inside to play and several HBO words, the garden was done.
Newton: I’m going to have to use my lazy Sunday to catch up on my sleep after staying awake to supervise so much. But first I need to check to be sure she didn’t bring in a snake after all.
Ashton: I know that some cats like playing inside bags. I have two perfectly good bags right here. I just prefer this one.
What? I like the crinkly sound that it makes when I move around on it. Or when I gnaw on it. There’s no need for me to go inside the bag. That just gets me pounced on, and that isn’t really my scene.
So I’m going to sit here and make a crinkle-crinkle-crinkle noise. You didn’t want quiet to go to sleep tonight, did you?
We’re having a cold snap today, and it’s our job to distract the head peep from going outside and attempting to garden this morning. So far, I think I’m doing a pretty good job.
Our friend Wally from the Island Cats showed photos of the framed photos around his house. Some of the photos were of the cat who came before him, and it got us to thinking about the photos in our house of the cats who came before us.
In our house, the cats who came before are all represented by framed photos that sit on one shelf that the had peep thinks we can’t reach. (You can click the photo to biggify.)
Talia, in the leftmost frame, was part of this blog back when it started in 2011. Her brother, Louie, is in the next frame. Rhett, the head peep’s heart kitty, is in the center frame, pictured on pillows, where he slept with the head peep. the black cat in the fourth frame is Cyrano, the oldest cat pictured, and the one who taught us the most, including passing down most of the manners we all know. And the last frame has a photo of Radcliffe, a beautiful boy who we lost far too early to heart failure.
There are no photos of us on the shelf because the head peep can look at us without needing a photo. Besides, if we really wanted to, we could climb up onto the shelf and show off ourselves…. but we can’t let on that we are able to reach the shelf. Don’t tell, okay?
