Houseguest Rumors
Pierre: Hey, Ashton, did you hear the latest rumor?
Ashton: You mean about the Great Chicken Shortage of 2014? I checked Snopes and it’s an urban myth, thank Cod.
Pierre: No, not that one. I’m talking about our houseguest.
Ashton: I noticed the head peep was doing some extra house cleaning, but I thought that was about the coffee she spilled everywhere last week. You should have seen Newton run when he got hit by flying coffee.
Pierre: This is a houseguest situation for sure. I helped make the guest bed. I always help make beds.
Ashton: So what do we do about this?
Pierre: Same thing we always do, Ashton. Hide in the closet or under the bed while Newton follows the visitor around like a puppy.
Ashton: You heard Pierre, friends. We may not be able to read and comment very much over the next week because the head peep’s father is visiting. I’ll try to visit some of you while he’s making sleeping noises, if I can.
Walk This Way
Ashton: Okay, kitties, I’m going to share my secret of how to get the humans’ attention. You have to walk fancy for them. They love that, and they’ll drop whatever they are doing to make a big fuss over you. So here are some of my favorite walks that never fail….
First, the high-stepping walk. Lift those paws way, way up!
If that doesn’t get you enough attention, there’s the fancy walk where your front end and your back end go different directions. The crossed paws are an advanced move, so kittens shouldn’t this at home yet.
Just be sure not to walk in a circle, because that just makes humans laugh, and we know this isn’t a comedy routine.
If all else fails, there’s the “Oh my Cod, did someone say chicken?” walk. You do this one directly into the kitchen and hope that they give you a treat for being so clever.
At least you end up with some chicken in the end. That’s really what’s important, right?
Best View in the House
Ashton: I’m going to tell you one of my secrets. Come on over here and sit by me. I’ll make room.
Ashton: I know that some jungle cats have plants to hide behind to watch for prey. Well, I don’t have any plants because Newton eats any plants that come into the house.
Newton: I heard that!
Ashton: Well, you do eat them! Don’t pay any attention to him. This is what I wanted to show you. Check it out. It’s my own jungle cat view of the outdoors. It’s the best view in the house.
Ashton: This window looks out between the townhouses, and anything that wants to go from the front yard to the back goes by here. I get to see all kinds of things: big walking birds, deer, humans, even humans with dogs. And I’m not scared of any of them because I can see them, but they can’t see me. So I sit here all day instead of on the sofa, just watching to see what might happen by.
Ashton: Sometimes I even see a frog or a squirrel right on the window screen. When I do, I pounce.
Newton: Is she looking out that window again? Ashton, stop that. You’re bombing my photo!
Ashton: I can’t hear you. I’m behind the blinds.
Newton: *sigh*
