Funny Chick

Cupcake: What’s this?

Pierre: It’s a chick. Don’t you recognize a chick?

Cupcake: That’s a funny looking chick!

Pierre: It probably escaped from Ashton’s Chicken Emporium. So be careful with it. Ashton will want it back.

Cupcake: Don’t worry, I’ll be very careful.

Cupcake: Oops.

Cupcake: Ashton didn’t see that, did she?

Pierre: You’re going to be in so much trouble if she did.

Cupcake: You won’t tell her, will you?

Pierre: That depends on how much tuna you can find for me before Ashton wanders by.

Cupcake Has a New Hangout

Some of our friends alerted us to being unable to post comments to a previous version of this post. We are hoping this republish will fix it!

While Cupcake was at the coffee shop this weekend, I put her carrier up on a chair to help give her a little bit of her own space. She responded by relaxing more than I have seen her do there in a long while.

The carrier fit up against the back of the chair, and its side opening filled the whole seat.

Cupcake stayed calm in the open shelter of the carrier even when a truck used its air brakes to stop nearby. If she is on my lap when that happens, she always cowers and tries to hide. It was amazing to see her not even flinch at the loud, hissing sound.

She used the open area toward the edge of the chair to visit with passers-by and charmed several new friends.

It was interesting to see her feeling much more comfortable with the carrier in the chair than she did with it on the ground. Despite the fact that she often sought out the ground when she had enough of sitting on my table or lap, the extra elevation made a bit difference.

She even dozed right off while we talked to friends on the patio.

Elevation, a little shelter, something mobile…. it finally struck me. Cupcake wants a stroller.

Cupcake: It took you long enough to figure it out!  black and white tuxedo cat lounges inside carrierI never thought a stroller would be practical for Cupcake, who usually likes being carried, but I’m rethinking that. Especially considering how much time we spend just hanging out. Every cat deserves her own hang out, right?

Who Put That Window There?

Cupcake: I have been on this counter so many times to play in the sink. But I just realized there is a window here.

Cupcake: I have to get through this so I can see out! There could be birds out there with no one to watch them.

Cupcake: When did they put this window here, anyhow?

We always keep the shades drawn on that window. It lets in the afternoon sun and makes the loaf of bread on top of the refrigerator get moldy too fast. Correction: we kept the shades drawn until Cupcake discovered the window.

Meeting Olivia

Olivia is a kitten who was looking for an adoptable family at our veterinarian’s office last week. Since Pierre spent more time there than he wanted last week, Olivia became fascinated by him.

Olivia: Hey, Mister Gray Cat! Over here! Over here!

Olivia: Do you want to come in here and play? I will share my toys with you. We can snuggle with Elephant together.

Olivia: Mister Gray Cat, I don’t think I’m supposed to learn that kind of language at my age.

Olivia: Come a little closer so I can reach you, please?

Not only is there a resident office cat to keep her company, she was adopted this past weekend! She joined a family who has a six-month-old orange kitten, so she now has a big brother. As much as she liked Pierre, she must love her big brother.
