We know a lot of our friends are celebrating the holiday today, and we just wanted to pause and share our best wishes for all of our friends who are celebrating today a very Meowy Catmas. We hope it’s full things that make you smile and purr!
Twas the Night Before Christmas: Secret Paws
There’s a traditional gift exchange among the cat bloggers around the world called secret paws. Just like the secret pals that humans often have in their workplaces at the holiday, one extremely dedicated cat blogger handles scrambling the names of all of the participating kitties and then assigns them out.
One of the most exciting parts of the arrival of a secret paw box is that it can mean that gifts come early if you’re persistent enough. We were so persistent that we kept breaking into the closet where the box was stored, so we were allowed to open the gifts from our secret paw before the holiday. So here we are, the night before Christmas, opening our secret paws box…
Newton: Finally! We’ve been asking to open this for days. I can smell amazing things in there already. Someone hurry up and help me open this!
Newton: What do you see in there?
Pierre: A lot of really cute wrapping paper.
Newton: Forget the wrapping paper. I want what’s inside!
Pierre: This stuff is pawesome! There’s a great cardboard scratcher with catnip, party mix, treats, toys, something for the head peep, and this teaser. Oh, boy!
Pierre: Bring that teaser over here. I love it!
Newton: You’re pretty enthusiastic with that thing, Pierre.
Pierre: Gimme gimme gimme gimme.
Newton: I think I’m standing back while this goes on.
Newton: This toy is so irresistibly soft. Check out the kangaroo pose while I hold it with both paws!
Don’t worry, Ashton is enjoying the gifts, too. She doesn’t like to play with toys when anyone else is in the room. But we can hear her rocketing around the sunroom when no one is looking, batting those blue toys around.
Newton: *My* blue toys.
Ashton: That’s what YOU think, Newt!
Thank you so much to our secret paws, the Florida Furkids. We love all of our gifts! Also, a special thanks to Truffle and Brulee for organizing the whole secret paws exchange. Without your tireless work to keep us all organized, it would never happen.
Long Winter’s Nap, Interrupted
Hey, Pierre! You are supposed to go inside your favorite cozy kitty cat sack. Don’t you remember from last winter?
Pierre: Whaaaat? Mancat trying to sleep over here. Do you mind?
Pierre: *Yaaaaaaaaawn*
Pierre: Are you still here? Go get into a cozy human sack or something, if you’re so worried about how I’m using this one. I’m comfy, thanks.
Disclosure: This post contains an affiliate link, which means we get a small commission for our cat treat fund if you purchase after clicking the link on this page. Mostly we included it because we really want to see a photo of a human we know wearing one of those, so if you buy it, show us a photo!
Safe and Happy Hanukkah
Pierre: It’s almost time!
Newton: Time for what? Dinner? Can I order the hungry-cat portion?
Pierre: Time for Hanukkah!
Newton: Hey, we did that last year, didn’t we?
Pierre: We tried. but even at your age, it’s clear that anything with candles isn’t safe around you, Newton.
Newton: Fine, blame me. You already blame me for everything that happens to the tree. And aren’t we supposed to have either menorah or a tree? Both seems kind of like cheating.
Pierre: It’s not cheating. We’re multicultural cats. The head peep grew up lightning a menorah every Hanukkah, but we also have a tree because they’re beautiful.
Newton: And they’re fun to climb.
Pierre: *sighs* That too, Newton. Which gets back to why we can’t light the menorah. I hope that Hanukkah Harry finds us anyhow.
Newton: If I promise to sit way up here, do you think she’ll light the menorah so that we don’t miss out on gifts? I promise not to get excited by the bright little flickering lights and pounce! See, I’m waiting.
Pierre: I’m pretty sure that the holiday is about togetherness and love as much as it is about gifts, Newt, but suit yourself. That means more latkes for Ashton and me!
Newton: Latkes? Wait up!
What we say here is often in good fun, of course, but we really can’t have an open flame around. Newton really will knock it over or catch his fur on fire. Always be careful with open flames around cats. Also, latkes are tasty, but are often made with onions. Check the recipe before sharing a taste with kitties. Have a safe and joyous Hanukkah, however you celebrate!
