Mancat Monday with the Cousins

We haven’t checked in with our cousins in a couple weeks, so we thought we would find out how they are doing for mancat Monday.

Cousin Earl looks like he has found a great spot to watch his peeps go by.

And look! Cousins Earl and Shep have started to snuggle. We think that when it gets to be cooler weather, they will snuggle even more.

Cousin Earl and Cousin Shep Snuggling

There’s nothing quite as cute as a couple of snuggly mancats! We’re going to tiptoe out so we don’t wake them. We hope that all of you have a great mancat Monday!

Our Scary Outing

As we mentioned yesterday, there were ominous signs that something was going on. Carriers had been on the floor for a few days. Then, our peaceful Caturday morning was interrupted by a snatch and grab!

2013-09-14 07.53.50

Ashton: Not funny, peeps.

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KIXw0DRlK-s]

With our carriers seat belted securely, we were off for a Caturday morning drive.

2013-09-14 08.10.19

There wasn’t a disembodied hand stuck in the carrier with Ashton. The door on top of the carrier allows the head peep to reach in to her on the ride. Ashton gets very stressed during drives, working herself up to panting excessively, so the head peep tries to reassure her.

All three of sang the song of our people the whole way. We’ve included a sample of it below, in case you want to sing along.

Pierre: Seriously? Is this necessary?

2013-09-14 08.20.15

At the vet’s office, Ashton is a bit of celebrity because of her rescue story and their role in it. The head receptionist saw her and immediately started calling people out of the back to come see how big she has gotten since her rescue and early surgeries.

Once we were in a room, all Newton wanted was to get out of the carrier.

Newton: I’ll be good. I promise.

2013-09-14 08.30.11

So the peeps let him out while they waited for the vet.

2013-09-14 08.31.26

Newton: Is there anything edible up there? Because I could use breakfast. You have no idea how these people feed me.

2013-09-14 08.32.23

Needless to say, Newton got his exam first. He might not be so eager to get out of the carrier next time.

Then it was Pierre’s turn.

Pierre: Guys, I’m healthy. Really, this isn’t necessary.

2013-09-14 08.45.29

While the Dr K. was getting a fecal sample (how undignified!), he got distracted reading the head peep’s t-shirt. The vet tech pointed out that he could read it afterward. Pierre agreed completely.

Pierre: Are you finished? Because I am.

2013-09-14 08.46.26

Ashton tried to throw off the scale by putting a paw down on the table.

2013-09-14 08.52.26

It didn’t work. Everyone agreed that she would benefit from dropping a little weight. We’ll be working on that soon.

Her dirty ears turned out to be a yeast infection. Dr. K described putting ear drops in daily for a week. After the head peep’s laughter died down, everybody agreed that Ashton would come back in another week for another ear flush. It isn’t ideal, but Ashton barely tolerates basic handling at home, and we don’t want to traumatize her into becoming untouchable.

2013-09-14 08.59.11

Ashton also got her nails clipped. You can see how the staff at the vet absolutely adores Ashton, even if she doesn’t exactly return the sentiment.

2013-09-14 09.00.57

Ashton: Can we go home? I need to hide in the closet. Now.

2013-09-14 09.43.37

With the exception of Ashton’s ears, everybody is healthy. Hopefully, Ashton will come out of the closet before she needs to go back to visit her admirers at the vet again. But for now, she’s going to spend her easy Sunday in her favorite spot in the closet, where there aren’t any scary strangers.

Reading the Signs

We’re seeing some rather disturbing signs.

Newton: I don’t like the look of that thing….
Newton and Carrier

Pierre: You want me to go in WHERE?

Pierre and Carriers

It’s time for all three of us to go for our annual vet visit. On a Caturday, can you believe it? We promise to sing the song of our people all the way there and to bring you an update on the experience tomorrow.

Flashback Friday

The head peep has been saying that she misses having cats who snuggle together. We might share a piece of furniture, as long as it’s large enough that we don’t have to be too close, but we don’t snuggle together. But looking back on when Newton was a kitten, he was determined to snuggle, even though Pierre really wasn’t interested in it.

Here, you can clearly see that Pierre is thinking, “Go away, kid, you bother me.”

Pierre and Newton Flashback 20090110

But Newton has always been a force of nature. He would wait until Pierre was asleep and then ninja snuggle him.

Do you kitties snuggle with each other?

Almost two weeks ago, Nerissa at Nerissa’s Life gave us the Wonderful Team Member Leadership Award. (Yes, the head peep is disorganized and slow about awards, but we’re trying to make her be better about it.)

copper-sun+team+readership+award

Isn’t it a beautiful graphic? Thank you, Nerissa! We’re supposed to pass it along to fifteen more bloggers, but we think you’re all amazing. Please, if you haven’t been presented with the award yet, take it, because you deserve it, too!

Thank you, Nerissa, for thinking of us with this award.
