Flashback Friday for National Hammock Day

Pierre: It’s National Hammock Day, and that reminded me of when I used to hang out in the cat hammock all the time. Oh, the good old days, when I could curl up there, minding my own business, enjoying peace and quiet…

Newton: Whatcha doing up there? Is there room for me, too?

Pierre: Then I remembered why I don’t hang out there so much any more. It’s too close to the ground, where my daydreams are easily interrupted by things that are naughty and orange.

Pierre: I hope you have more luck celebrating National Hammock Day than I did!

Deer TV

Newton: Whoa, check out what’s on the cat TV today!

Deer! That one seems to appreciate the grass left by that noisy machine that cut it down yesterday.

Where there’s one, there are always more. Deer hang out in gangs, doing their deer things.

Like eating grass. Ugh. Can you believe they seem to like that stuff?

Speedbump

Newton: I have always loved my ess scratcher. It’s the best seat in the house!

Newton: I’m kind of rough on them, though. I went through several of them over the past few years.

Newton: The humans said they don’t make esses like they used to. One day, this speedbump showed up in place of my beloved ess.

Pierre: Whose best seat in the house is it now?

Ashton Gotcha Day Outtakes

Has it really been five years since Ashton joined our family. She has grown from a tiny kitten mistaken for debris in the highway median into a big kitty full of personality.

So today’s outtakes are some random photos that didn’t quite make the cut and all feature Ashton. The first one doesn’t exactly show the end of her that most people want to see.

Ashton actually spends quite a bit of time next to the back door like that, sniffing the air that seeps in from the wild. Maybe it’s the next best thing to having access to the screened front porch, or maybe she knows how many lizards live right outside.

The next photo is an outtake because of human error.

If the head peep would have aimed the camera a little higher, this photo might have been a keeper, but cutting off the tips of Ashton’s ears while leaving lots of space at the bottom of the photo? Good help is hard to find.

Then there’s the classic photobomb.

Ashton, don’t look now, but there’s a huge bird behind you.

This photo was disappointing because Ashton’s face was out of focus.

She looks impressively large in her floof suit, doesn’t she?

The last photo makes Ashton look heavier than she actually is, and the light wasn’t good, either.

It’s fun to see her sit like this, though. She sits on the edge of the head peep’s desk like this every night, looking hopeful for bedtime treats as the head peep tries to work.

Speaking of treats, it’s Ashton’s gotcha day, so for today, her diet is relaxed and she is getting extra treats. So we had better get to that. Have a great weekend, everybody!
