Pierre: Hey, what’s that sound?

Pierre_looking_over_shoulder_sm

Pierre: Mouses! That bird is nearly as tall as the head peep!

Pierre_sand_hill_crane_01sm

Pierre: I don’t think he likes when I do that.

pierre_sand_hill_crane_02sm

Pierre: Newton! Come quick! You’ll never believe what’s out here!

Pierre_sand_hill_crane_03sm

Newton: What’s the big deal? Oh my COD! Look at that thing. Could someone please open the blinds so we can get a better view?

Newton_Pierre_sand_hill_crane_04sm

Pierre: I’m not so sure about this. If we can see him, he can see us, right?

pierre_sand_hill_crane_05sm

Pierre: I just thought of something. If chickens taste like chicken, would a bigger bird taste even more like chicken?

Newton: We should find out!

Pierre: How are we going to do that?

newton_pierre_sand_hill_crane_06sm

Newton: The window latch is up here. I’ve seen the head peep use it to open the windows before.

Pierre: I’m not so sure that’s a good idea.

Newton: Sure it is! But this one is stuck. Hang on.

Newton_pierre_sand_hill_crane_07sm

Newton: Maybe if I get up on top of the cat tree, I can get a better grip on the latch. This is no good. I need thumbs.

Newton_sand_hill_crane_08sm

Pierre: Keep working on it! I’ll keep him occupied.

pierre_sand_hill_crane_09sm

Pierre: Really, bird, you can stop with the flapping thing. I’m not impressed.

pierre_sand_hill_crane_10sm

Ashton: What’s all the fuss about out here? You would have thought that the treat fairy — whoa! What’s that?

pierre_ashton_sand_hill_crane_11sm

Ashton: Can it come inside to play?

Pierre: Newton already tried that. It won’t open for us.

pierre_ashton_sand_hill_crane_12sm

* tap tap tap *

Ashton: Did you hear that?

Pierre: I don’t think the head peep is going to like him knocking on the window like that.

* tap tap tap *

pierre_ashton_sand_hill_crane_13sm

Ashton: The head peep has the squirt gun. RUN!

Pierre: She isn’t going to squirt us. I think she’s just going outside to chase away our new friend.

The head peep did go outside to chase away our friend, armed only with a squirt gun. It worked, but she forgot to take a house key outside with her. You guessed it: the head peep locked herself out of the house with nothing but her squirt gun and her phone. At least she had the phone so that she could take one last photo of our friend before she chased him away.

Swag Saturday

Newton: The head peep got back from BlogPaws last Sunday, but it has taken all week for her to let us see all of the swag she brought back.

Pierre: That might have been because of the way you tried to unpack it on your own.

Newton: It wasn’t my fault. Cats like opportunities! I found an opportunity to check out the bag of freeze-dried food that Christine from Oh My Shih Tzu sent home for us. It was for us, after all, right?

Swag_BreakIn

Pierre: That looks like a little more than just checking it out.

Newton: *burp*

Pierre: *sigh*

Punctured_Stella_and_Chewys

Newton: Anyway, did you want me to tell everyone about the swag she did finally unpack from BlogPaws?

Pierre: Go right ahead.

Newton: There’s so much of it that the head peep insists we can’t eat all of it, and we have to share it with Cousins Shep and Earl and with some of our other friends here in town who aren’t as fortunate as we are.

BlogPaws_Swag_Newton_sm

Pierre: It’s good to share with others, especially those who aren’t as fortunate as you are.

Newton: I’m going to pick out the good toys before they are given away. If I drool on this feather, I can keep it, right?

BlogPaws_Swag_Newton02_sm

Newton: In addition to the swag bags from BlogPaws, we got lots of wonderful things from my fan club.

Pierre: Those probably weren’t all for you.

Newton: Sure they were! So I personally wanted to thank them all. There were wonderful gifts from Sheebie at Katnip Lounge, my new friend Meg at Housecat Confidential, and Ms. Stella O’Houligan from On a More Personal Note. Oh, and a catbell from Waffles, not to mention soap from Priscilla the Goat.

Pierre: I’m just going to sit here and watch to see what you do with that soap.

Ashton: Don’t forget the homemade treats that Oui Oui at Twinkletoe Tails sent for me!

Ashton_and_twinkletoe_tails_treats

Pierre: Since the head peep finally met Ms. Stella O’Houligan‘s human, she was able to buy one of her famous catnip quilts. This one actually says BlogPaws 2014 right on it!

Pierre_blogpaws_quilt01_sm

As a connoisseur of fine catnip, I give this dazed paws up!

Pierre_blogpaws_quilt02_sm

Newton: Ms. Stella, your human does great work. It takes a lot to make a mancat like me this silly.

Newton_blogpaws_quilt0_sm

*whew* I’m worn out.

Newton_blogpaws_quilt02_sm

Pierre: Since Newton is laying down on the job, it’s up to me to say thank you to everyone who the head peep forgot to tell us to thank. Good help is so hard to find.

Newton: Yes, thank you to my whole fan club.

Pierre: Oh, Newton, they’re not your… you know, never mind. Let’s go see if we can have some of those new treats.

Ashton on the Lookout

Pierre: What are you looking at out there, Ashton?

Ashton: I’m looking for the head peep. She’s gone. I’m afraid she has left us forever!

Ashton looking out window

Pierre: It’s not forever. She just went to BlogPaws to meet some of our friends.

Ashton: This is worse than a diet. I’m going to starve!

Pierre: Aunt Orvis just fed you an hour ago.

Ashton: Aunt O. isn’t as free with the treats as the head peep. I’m telling you, we’re going to starve.

Pierre: *sigh* Tell me when there’s a bird out there. I’ll be on the sofa.

Adopting Special Needs Pets

Ashton: Happy Caturday, everykitty!

Ashton_on_wooden_floor_sm

Did you know that today is two important days that come together into one happy coincidence? It’s National Specially-Abled Pets Day and also a National Adoption Weekend. That means it’s time for me to remind you that cats that might not be perfect on the outside, like me, can be perfect companions.

I have a forever wink. Cousin Earl has a funny hop. But you know what? We purr and cuddle and love you just the same as any other cat. Well, not you, because we already have homes where we are loved even though we aren’t perfect on the outside. There’s a cat out there who isn’t quite perfect on the outside who is waiting to love you, too. Whether that cat doesn’t see quite right, doesn’t hear, or maybe doesn’t walk in a straight line like other cats do, that cat is going to be the most loving pet ever. If this is your weekend to adopt, don’t overlook that special needs kitty.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to go show Newton who’s boss. Have a great Caturday!
