For Fun Facts about Names Day, we’re sharing how we got our names.
Pierre: I was part of a litter of kittens who lived under a tarp in a boat that was stored on a trailer. The owner of the boat had no idea we were even in there. One day, he hooked the trailer up to his car and drove off with the boat, and we were on board! Our mother wasn’t on board with us, though, and no one could find us. Lucky for us, we were taken in by a small rescue and had a wonderful foster who raised us until we were big enough to be adopted. She gave us all nautical names because we were found in a boat, and I was named Pier. When I was adopted, the name Pier sounded confusing, so I was renamed something that still honored my foster Mom’s original name for me: Pierre.
Ashton: It’s probably hard for humans to remember back that far, but in the summer of 2011, you were all having to listen to news about the Casey Anthony trial. I was born that summer to feral parents, probably within a mile of the courthouse. Of course, I wasn’t watching the news or anything, but after the head peep rescued me from the highway median, Aunt Orvis suggested naming me Ashton after one of the attorneys in the trial that had gone on all summer so close to where I was found. Please don’t remind Newton I was named after a boy. He has teased me about it most of my life.
Newton: You two have such long stories about your names! Mine is short: I’m named Newton because I’m a force of nature. Usually a naughty force of nature!
How did you get your name?

How interesting and unique! My breeder loves music, especially jazz, so many of her kittens wind up with musical names. I was called “Summer Samba” after the song.

Those are very interesting stories about how you got your names. Ernie is named after Ernest Hemingway because he’s a poly cat and Hemingway had lots of those kind of cats.
Melissa & Truffles says
That is so cool! I love Ashton’s story…I hate to admit that much of that trial was watched in my house. Truffles was supposed to be named Mocha, but as soon as I saw her she made me think of a tiny and delicate little truffle ๐
Fur Everywhere says
What cool stories! Your names definitely fit you. Our names don’t have really interesting stories. Milita was named by one of the mom’s high school friends. He said it is the name of some kind of goddess. Carmine was named Carmine at the shelter the Mom got him from. The Mom thought it was a good name for him, so she kept it the same.
Brian Frum says
That was darn cool gang and all of your names are just purrfect!

Loved learning about how you got your name! I was named “Cody” because Mom has a thing for “C” names, (gee, I wonder why?) The funny thing, is when Mom adopted me, she mentioned to my foster that she wanted to name me “Cody” and my foster Mom screamed….”Oh noooo please don’t!!” Mom was taken aback and asked why……my foster Mom said “Every Cody I have ever known both human and animal has been CRAZY!!!” Well, Mom chose not to heed the warning………..she named me Cody anyway (obviously)…..I’m not CRAZY am I? MOL!!!! Love, Cody

those are great stories. we love hearing how other kitties got their names. Most of us were parts of foster groups and got ours that way. Tim and Tom came with their names. And Spud and Junior were spur of the moment, gotta put something on the vet form, names that stuck. ๐
Kristine says
My mom named me for a Category 5 hurricane that was bothering Mexico when she picked me! That’s why I am a Felix even though I am not black and white…My mom named her first cat Tornado, because she was gray and ran around in circles….Weather is a theme since Mom is a daughter of a weatherman…..

love the names! my human who adopted me from a farm full of kittens got me home and had no idea what to call me. I knew who i was, but she had to go thru 4 days of names before i let her know she got the right one. Oh yes, she went thru the cute names, the manly names ( I am a male after all), the, regal names, movie stars, leader names, you name it.. she was exhausted when she finally hit the name right. she called out Georgie ( as in bugs bunny’s “I will name him George, and I will hug him, and pet him, and squeeze him” ). I came running to her and jumped on her lap them. haven’t left her side since. <3
Connie says
Naming has never come easy for me.. I usually wait for the cats to tell me what to name them.

Those are all very interesting stories about how you each got your names. Of course being in FL we know all too well about Casey Anthony. *whew* Ashton we’re glad you weren’t named Casey. *wink*
I was named Fritzy and Mom could not understand how anyone in their right mind could name me something silly like that, do I LOOK like a Fritzy? What’s a Fritzy look like anyway.
Mom said I am a dainty tiny little puff and she saw me as something very feminine. She kidding said Abigail. But she couldn’t do that to me or Abby…so she wanted another “A” name. It’s funny in an odd way because she found out after she had named me that the kitten I had (who was adopted prior to me — otherwise Mom would have gotten me and her) was named Bluebell. She didn’t know when she named me Annabelle.
