Cats Herd You

All of of your kind words and adoration for Ashton has totally upset and exhausted Newton, because (if you didn’t know already), the universe revolves around Newton. So you can see how even a few compliments paid to another kitty could damage his calm, let alone an entire Gotcha Day outpouring.

Cheer up Newt! Every cat deserves their day.

The normally shy Ashton wants everyone to know how thankful she is to all of you awesome kitties and peeps who sent her all of those well wishes for her Gotcha Day. Since Newton started off in his terrible (and naughty) twos and never looked back, we are hoping Ashton stays just the way she is.

It’s hard to believe it has been two years since the head peep noticed something struggling in the highway median and stopped to get a better look. It was a kitten, unable to use her hindquarters to walk and with a ruined eye. Into a handy rubbermaid bin she went, and that’s where the first photo we have of Ashton was taken, on the way to the vet.

Ash moved into a cage in the sunroom so she could have time to recover use of her back legs, which she did.

Then she wanted to get out of the cage to play with the boys while she waited to be strong enough for eye surgery.

Once she grew a little, she was able to have surgery to remove the remains of her ruined eye, and she gained that trademark Ashton wink.

After surgery, she was just like any other kitten, showing her cute off.

And growing…

Into the big, grownup kitty she is today!

And today, on her second gotcha day, she’d like to remind everyone not to ignore little things that struggle by the side of the road, because rescued kittens can become amazing companions.

Cousin Shepherd is always looking for a cool spot to relax in.

Although he enjoys taking a drink from a lightly running faucet in the sink, somehow we doubt he would enjoy the shower turning on when he is chilling out in his newly found hangout.
