Our Valentine’s Day post on Monday featured Newton receiving a mouse in the mail. Some of our friends have asked how we take our photos, so we’re sharing a little bit of what happened behind the scenes the day we shot the photos you saw on Monday.

None of the cats were very interested in the mouse by itself. That meant if anyone was going to look intrigued by the mouse in the mailbox, he was going to need some help, in the form of a little freeze-dried chicken.

That certainly got someone’s attention!

The other thing that needed to be adjusted was the table we started with was all wrong for the project. It was too for cats to easily access, but too small to provide space for a cat and a mouse-laden mailbox.

Once the mailbox was at cat eye-level, the real challenge was taking photos before Ashton realized there were treats hiding the mailbox. Once she did, she wasn’t interested in sharing.
Ashton: Hey, outta there, Pierre!

Ashton: I KNEW I smelled chicken! Why does it have to be so far in here?

Ashton: OOPS!

Newton: The mouse is over here.
Ashton: You can have him. I’ve got my eye on the real prize.

Ashton: A girlcat has to have her priorities, am I right?

A mailbox mousie? We are pawsitively fainty at the idea!
Ha-ha! That kind of looks like what happens here when we do photo shoots!
nice…..those are great and we appreciate the insight ๐
guys…theeze out takez R grate…we like oopz de best….{ we wunder if de mouz yelled when him fell kleen over; tho him did make a nice ree coveree landin ~~~ ๐
heerz two a uaru kinda week oh end; himz act shoo a lee a prette awesum fish; see ya twoozday ! โฅโฅโฅ
Ashton is too funny, she has a good nose on her.
I’m glad I’m not the only one bribing my subject with treats to get a good shot. For Bear, there’s only one way he’ll sniff something I want to take a picture of him with … lay out a few treats and then edit out the treats in the final picture ๐ You’re far better at it than I am though … I wouldn’t have guessed treats were involved here! I love your trio … they are extra super special … and I have a bit of a crush on all three.
Oh do I hear you on the behind the scenes….WTG we enjoyed the rest of the story.
Just today mom wanted to do a ‘shot’ in the kitchen for Shopping around the world post next week.
I was not cooperative she ‘made do’!
Hugs madi your bfff
MOL ! Thank you for sharing your behind-the-scene photos ! Purrs
MOL! That’s pretty much what happens here with photo shoots. We are more interested in the treats than anything else. And once the treats are gone, so are we. ๐
You’re so clever!!! Wouldn’t work with Mudpie though because she’s not treat motivated enough ๐
Dang, I never get any treats, not even for photo time.
Ashton, haven’t seen you for awhile and now mom and I have, there she goes again falling for you. I’m not jealous at all but boy she thinks you are the cat’s meow.
It must be fun to have kitties who will “work” for treats. The chicken incentive helped you get great photos.
I love peeking “behind-the-scenes”! Sometimes the bloopers are better than the real shots. But your shots are always great!
those are some awesome photos!
