Ashton: Any day you have to go to the vet is a bad day. But I had to admit, I make things a little challenging with how difficult I am to get into the PTU.
It all started when the doors got closed all over the house. We have an open door policy around here, and closed doors mean trouble for someone.
Newton: Everybody else hid, and I investigated. I always forget that this door *can* close.
Ashton: This isn’t your story, Newton.
Newton: It is when I was there. At least until I was locked out on the wrong side of the sliding glass door.
Ashton: So the head peep looked for me under the sofa, and look who she found!
Pierre: Leave me out of this. I was just inspecting the poor housekeeping on the floor under here.
Ashton: Unfortunately, she found me under there too. What, you don’t store your turbo track under the sofa?
Newton: I was sitting on the peep’s desk, watching out the window.
Ashton: Still not your story, Newton.
Ashton: Then there was a dirty trick… the sofa got pulled away from the wall! I made a break for it, but ended up caught and put into the PTU.
Ashton: I wasn’t happy about it, either.
(If the video doesn’t display above, you can view it on YouTube.)
Ashton: We had to wait a while in the waiting room at the vet. At first, I was okay.
But the stress of pretending to be okay got to me.
I closed my eyes and thought of Mr. Jinx.
We went into the exam room, and… oh, don’t publish that picture on the internet!
Dr. K said I have a staff infection. I don’t know what that is, but I have to take medicine for it.
I was so tired from all of the stress, I was quieter than normal on the ride back home.
Head Peep: The vet offered to give Ashton a Convenia injection for her staph infection rather than her needing daily medication, but we checked her chart and she hasn’t had it in the past. With the poor reactions we’ve seen in some of our friends around the blogosphere to Convenia, we decided it was best if she had and antibiotic she has safely taken in the past, so she is on Baytril for 14 days.
Thanks to all of you (and especially Mr. Jinx!) for your good thoughts while Ashton had her bad day at the vet. We’re relieved that it wasn’t anything more serious, and we hope that Ashton will be on speaking terms with the peeps again soon.

Oh Ashton, you did really pretty well… I am sure you tried to anyway! And please do make up with the sweet mom you have! She is taking such good care of you!
It was fun to see your brothers, too! lol!
Love,
Lily, WA, USA

What a precious post. Poor Ashton…I hope the meds make you feel better soon!
Ashton we hope you will soon recover from your ordeal at that hands of your peeps and the v-e-t. We also hope your antibiotics make you better soon.
Luv Hannah and Lucy xx xx
We hope you feel better soon. We think you have such a sweet meow!
The Florida Furkids
Poor Ashton, what a terrible ordeal! I hope you are soon feeling better.
You have a sweet little worried meow. If I have to go to the evil vet I yowl my warrior songs as loud as I can.
Poor Ashton, that was a pitiful little meow. We are glad it all worked out though and it wasn’t anything too bad. You were a good girl. Take care.
Ashton, I’m so sorry you had to go to the vet, but I’m glad all is well now. I bet your peeps were almost as stressed as you were. Take good care, sweet girl.
P.s. Pierre’s little scared face looking out from under the sofa about broke my heart.
Poor Ashton! I had to go to the evil v-e-t yesterday too…and it was horrible! I feel your pain.
We hope you’re feeling better soon.
Ernie
Oh, Ashton… I hope you feel better soon.
Ashton
I think I know that song of woe be unto me you are singing. Bless your heart
at least it is over and you are on the mend. You are lucky your staff caught the
staph infection and you are on the mend.
Hugs madi your bfff
Oh you poor thing! I’m so sorry you’re not feeling well. I hope the meds make you better. Lovely pictures though.
Poor Ashton….but we hope you are feeling better soon
Yikes! That was a very bad day indeed. (Love Pierre’s expression from under the couch!)
Ashton, we’re sending purrs that you’re better soon. We think your human was smart not to go the Convenia route–Convenia was intended for skin infections, and there have been too many cats who’ve had serious side effects from it, best to steer clear.
Really great post, though–i.e. the story in photos, well done.
Ashton we are so glad you got your vet’s visit over. If we didn’t put up a fight our Peeps would wonder if we really are ill!
Purrs,
Miss Kitty
Miss Ashton I have kept you in my purrs nonstop and will continue to do so until you are completely fine. WE are so happy you chose the Baytril … we have a NO COnvenia on our charts at the Vet. Just because of all the things we have seen and don’t want to know if we would be OK or not. But now Miss Ashton you just relax and recover and you’ll feel better in no time at all. We are so glad your Mom was so attentive and got this nipped in the bud.
((Ashton))
We are sorry you had such a bad day at the v-e-t, Ashton. We hope you get to feeling better very soon!
You poor sweetie. We know you will kick that nasty infection in the butt and be all well soon. Purrs and hugs from all of us.
Glad you figured it out! Ashton, get better, dude. Sorry about your bad day! – Crepes.
It’s hard to tell a story when you live with a bunch of buttinskis, isn’t it? Well, I hope they don’t add to your stress, Ashton!
We hope the antibiotics clear up the infection quickly! We’ll send lots of healing purrs your way and for your Mom to give you extra treats.
Oh Ashton, poor little thing ! We hope you will forgive your peeps, it’s for your health (mum told us to write it…). We hope that bad day was worth of it, and that you will get well soon ! Purrs
Good call on the Conevnia! We know of lots of kitties who had reactions to it. Poor Ashton, those were stressed out little chirps! The mom brings out the PTU the day before, then sneaks up on us and throws us in the shower stall with the sliding doors before a trip you-know-where.
Sending healing purrz to Ashton. Dunno what a staff infection is but shouldn’t your staff be taking the antibiotics?

Oh, you poor thing! The way you were manhandled! Hoping that evil infection goes away pronto!
poor poor Ashton!!! Hoping she is feeling better soon!
Oh Ashton, darling, what a horrible, no good, very bad day! And honestly: Is there NUFFING sacred? NUFFING the Humans won’t exploit for their own entertainment??? Really, it’s just too bad. Maybe the next time your Peep goes to the DOCTOR you could take a camera along. I’m sure there are PLENTY of “examinations” she’d LOVE to have you photograph to share on the Innerwebs! There there, darling, just rest your sweet heady on Spitty’s floofy tum and close your eyes…..
Ashton, I know how you feel. I had to go to the evil vet today, too, and had something stuck up where it didn’t belong. I hope that the meds make you all well very soon. We will be purring for you. Thank you for purring for me. I am eating more and I feel better. I have been asking Mom for lots of petting tonight and I have been getting it. Score!
Oh sweet Ashton, we didn’t know you had to go to the vet, we felt sorry for you with your cute, tiny peeps in the video. Thank goodness you are back home again and we are purring and sending good thoughts your way that everything will clear up quickly and easily.
Ashton, your poor sweet heart. We always heard that staph infections are really bad. Take your medicine like a good kitty and get well really super faster. We will add you to our 24/7 purr-a-thon and our mom will put you on her prayer list. Purrs and paw-pats, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo
