Sofa Encounter

Many of you asked how the resident cats were doing with a new kitten in the house.

Cupcake has a serious case of hero worship with all of the big kitties and wants to be near them, but she is respectful when they tell her to back off. The only times things can get tense is when she surprises them at close range.

This happened over the weekend with Ashton, and I happened to have my cell phone to catch some grainy photos of the encounter.

Ashton got suspicious that someone was behind her, but she was patient about it at first.

Knowing that Cupcake was on the move behind her was stressful, though.

When Cupcake tried to walk too close to her, it was too much for Ashton.

Cupcake was fine after Ashton gave her a whack for coming too close, but she kept more of a distance afterward, which is exactly the message Ashton was trying to get across to her.

Everyone is learning new boundaries with each other, but they’re all getting extra treats and attention in the process, so that part of it suits them all fine.

Binga says that kittens need a smack now and again to learn about those all-important boundaries! That does not explain why she still continues to smack me now and then, though.

It sounds like the adjustment phase is going on pretty normally at your place!

We’re sure the resident cats will keep Cupcake in her place. Hey Ashton…you’re not the only girlcat now!

nothing wrong with a little smacking to learn to give the adults some space. though credit to the kitten for sneaking up on Ashton on the side she can actually SEE her coming 🙂

Cupcake seems to have the perfect personality to blend in…she’s curious but careful, and no hiding for days in the closet!

We agree with what Random Felines said – at least Cupcake came up on Ashton from the visible side. Looks like Cupcake is making herself right at home.

Looks as if Cupcake is making herself right at home and taking admonishments from Ashton in stride. She sure is a cutie, and a wonderful addition to your group. XOCK, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, angel Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth, Calista Jo and Cooper Murphy.

Ashton! Caroline does that to us all the time. And sometimes Elliott gives Izzy Buttinski a whap when he won’t stop headbutting him.

Ashton, you are NOT the baby anymore! Plus you have a sister to side with you against those boys. You even get extra treats. It’s a win!

We’ve been out of touch for a couple of weeks on social media and just had to say how EXCITED we are to hear all about Cupcake!!! What a sweetie! And although Katie approves of Cupcake’s very chic black & white attire, she’s quite pleased to admire it at a distance. She’s been through the kitten invasion before! ; )

Congratulations on your bundle of furry joy!
    xoxo
