Every Day is Cat Herders Day

Today is one of our favorite holidays of the year: National Cat Herders Day. It’s a day to celebrate those who, in their day-to-day lives, find that what they are doing is herding cats, whether literally or figuratively.

The head peep says that sometimes she feels like she is herding cats literally and figuratively to get us to do what she wants in time for a photo shoot.

“Smile, Pierre! ”

“Okay, Newton, now for the closeup. Not THAT close up! ”

“Look excited about building the gingerbread house, Newton. ”

“Just put on the pirate hat, Pierre. ”

Even more than the head peep, our favorite cat herders of all were on the EDS Superbowl commercial from 2000 where cowboys herded cats:

(If the video doesn’t display for you, you can click here to view it on YouTube.)

However you herd cats today, we know you’ll do it in style. And if necessary, herd your humans instead today. That’s what we usually do, anyhow.

MOL! Love the photo of Newton with his mouth open.

We cats run the show. It’s the humans who need herding. 😉

Is there a people herding day? Imagine the cats have a whole calendar of holidays that we know nothing about… There’s a lot of people herding here at our house – “head for the empty food bowl”!

The only one that herds cats around here is our Border Collie dog. She loves to try to herd the cats, but they think it is great fun. You all have a great evening.

Never knew what a cat herder actually did until now. Pierre, you look like you’ve just seen a burd and you’re making that “ack ack ack” sound.

Has it really been 15 years since that commercial. Lily Olivia is the only one old enough to remember it. Mom says that we are impossible to herd…no amount of cajoling or treats work. We feel quite satisfied that we have not stooped so low as to do her bidding! Ho, ho, ho, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo
