Ashton’s Body Double

When the head peep attends BlogPaws later this year, Ashton can’t go, so a stand-in was necessary. After some searching, and a little arts and crafts, there’s a new one-eyed kitty in the house.

Does anyone have suggestions about what the little plush kitty with the eyepatch should be named?

Several of you have asked for updates on Ashton.

She still seems to feel all right, though the infection on her tummy looks pretty ugly. She is getting more stressed out by the day by having to take medicine. The current routine is that sometime after the head peep comes home, Ashton ventures out of the bedroom, and the doors to the bedroom doors are closed. Ashton then notices that the bedroom doors are closed and starts to sing the song of her people. Sometimes she gives up and lets the head peep catch her, and sometimes she leads a merry chase that requires moving furniture, but she continues to sing through getting her medicine, then she goes and hides between the shelf and the wall in the sunroom.

After three days of the new antibiotic, she is showing more signs of stress daily, but at least she is getting medicated. We are hoping to see results soon.

The vet wants to recheck her in a few more days. We know she looks worse than when he last saw her, so we aren’t sure what will happen next. We suspect it will involve e-collars. Good thing the head peep cleaned the coat closet and found four of them today.

(Yes, we have more cones than cats… it’s a very long story.)

Ashton thanks everyone for their good thoughts on her behalf, and she promises to continue to sing the song of her people whenever the bedroom door is closed. She is also trying to figure out how to get the plush cat with the eyepatch to take the medicine in her place, but so far, no luck…

Oh Ashton, we’re so sorry that you will perhaps need a cone-of-shame ! It’s for your own good says Mum, but we know that it’s sooooo annoying ! Miss Blinky, or Miss Blindfold (she has to get a name, right ?) is very cute, despite the fact that she doesn’t want to help you with your drugs. Healing purrs and gentle head butts

What a poor, poor lamb. The head peep must feel like a crumb putting poor Ashton through this as this is the not nice side of the relationship. Lots of loving purrs and hugs to Ashton and a big hug to the head peep for doing so well to get Ashton better. Fingers crossed tummy just looks worse while it is improving.

Miss Ashton, Jinx said he will be right over and if he could he said he would even take that medicine for you. Jinx is our only kitty who seems to like medication. Go figure. He’ll eat anything. We sure understand about how it stressing you out. We had a terrible time getting one gel tab down Gracie this morning. Yep she spit it out and starting fighting. It wasn’t pretty and well both Mom and Gracie were stressed.

The medicine is always a problem. Dad is so glad we are well as a few of us are simply impossible to medicate with his bad arm and hobbling on one leg. Mr Buttons needed meds for a long period when he first came as he has FIV. Dad found the treat (Chick-Hen Breast) that he loved and got to the point of lap–> Treat–>Meds–>Treat that worked well for about 6 weeks of antibiotics. If there is a treat that is loved… it may help… We also only do liquids. The pills are rough. We do have a pill shooter that was used on our new Einstein just last week for his drontal
Purrs that Ashton feels better soon

Ashton darling, I am so so sorry I missed that you were having such a bad time with your tummy and your mom making you take medicine— and Admiral who came before me, ALWAYS sang the song of her people too…LOUD and PROUD! Often and on every occasion that want going to the Vet.

Poor Ashton. You could call her mini Ashley. Stuffies are diabolical but last year at Blogpaws, several vendors told us they preferred stuffies to flat pets. Plush CK is looking to go with someone.
