I have never had a cat as brave as Cupcake. What I can’t decide is whether her bravery that allows her to go out and meet people around town is also what fuels some of the things she does around the house.
Recently, I put a sandwich on the kitchen counter and turned around to open the refrigerator to get the mayonnaise. When I turned around, there was no sandwich on the counter. I had an instant of wondering whether I had left it somewhere else before I turned to look at the kitchen floor.
There was my sandwich. And Cupcake, too.
It’s hard to believe that this is the same kitten who arrived thinking that human food was not edible.
I guess Ashton rubbed off on her.
Have your cats ever stolen your food?

Oh, I would TOTALLY steal my human’s food… which is why she either eats it or puts it away! Binga is worse than me. Actually, Boodie would steal food too. Okay, I guess we are three for three.
Eric and Flynn never stole food, although Eric would sometimes ask for it. The cats who came before were a different matter. They would steal it as soon as look at you.
I once stole a tomato that was in a plastic bag off of the kitchen counter. The mom found it about a month later under the bed. ๐ ~Wally
She’s helping herself too! MOL Nope…Mudpie still thinks human food isn’t edible.
MOL! Our cats are definitely not that bold! But I bet they would snag some sandwich meat if we ate it. I’m sure they’re very sorry that their humans are vegetarians. ๐
I once left a peperoni pizza on the kitchen table and only turned my back for maybe 5 seconds to go 3 feet to get plates and napkins. When I turned back, my ginger cat, Bud, who normally was NOT a counter-cat, was actually standing on the pizza sucking up the cheese.
Whoa! If we didn’t know better, we’d swear sweet Cupcake was related to our sister Tessa. Yeah, she gets into all kinds of things and our Mom calls her a handful.
One of my cats will have a nibble of bread or cookies (even dog biscuits) if I leave them out. ‘Out’ is anywhere she can reach including counters where cats aren’t allowed and closets with doors she can pry open.
We must put Manny and Chili Bruce into their room when the humans eat, because they want EVERYTHING we are eating! We need four arms, to eat with and ward off the cats.
Oh wow! That is possible?????
We really don’t even attempt that. All we do is meow and asked the human to sniff what’s on the counter, and after a good sniffing we walk away.
the resident cats are pretty good….though Chanel likes to take a good sniff or two just to be sure she MIGHT not want it. Sig was pushy for a while but has learned to back off. But some of those foster kittens….dang ๐
Sullingham used to steal my coffee. He loved coffee. It’s the only time he was ever aggressive. The two girls I have now do not care at all about human food. YET.
The M acEllis cats here … we do all this stuff all the time ! Mom really has to keep a good eye on her food or we will sneak it and run under the sofa with it !
Way to go, CC! *high paw* Your human is gonna have to go vegetarian now! HAH! I so steal the peeps’ food. I got into the Thanksgiving turkey before they sat down at the table.
Oh yes ! Zorro will do it every time it’s possible, but Claire and Momo were well trained by Angel Loupi previously and are very good food keepers ! Purrs
Look at you helping yourself to a sandwich, Cupcake! Evan is my only kitty who thinks human food is edible. But, he’s also sort of picky. If there is dairy or coconut oil involved, he will be all over it. Anything else is usually deemed unworthy. Pup Astrid has also been known to steal a morsel or two, but especially for a dog, even she is picky. She might steal meat or dairy, but that’s about it.
The question is, did she get to keep it?
Some of these replies are downright hilarious! Elliott will try to eat Mom’s food while she’s eating it, but she learned long ago to never leave her food unattended for a second. William used to steal lettuce right off the counter, and he would drink V8, sticking his head right in the glass to get to it. And of course, we ALL love KFC!
