I rarely cook, so Cupcake can’t figure out what he big deal is if she gets caught on the counters.
Cupcake: It’s not like you are making food up here. See? No food.
That means when I do cook, it’s a strange and fascinating process. I make sure to boil water on the stove eye farthest from the counter so she isn’t tempted to look in and see what’s cooking.
I recently started cooking with one of those Instant Pot gadgets, and she is even more fascinated by the gurgling noises that makes as it comes up to pressure.
Cupcake: I don’t know what’s making that noise, but I don’t trust it.
As you can see, Cupcake is a really big help in the kitchen.
Cupcake: There’s art of me up here. Why do the humans keep telling me I don’t belong up on the counter?

We don’t get up on the counter while cooking is going on. The humans don’t know how they lucked out.
Not to worry Cupcake, we all get on the kitchen counters. It is very interesting up there. You all have a fine day.
hope springs eternal right Cupcake? you never know when there might be something for a kitten to steal
We are not supposed to be on the counters, but our humans have never been able to enforce that rule, as some of us actually eat our meals on the counter. They cook all the time and have to make sure absolutely nothing is left open or on the stove. Very cute Cupcake art. No kitties on the kitchen counters at Eastside Cats, but that doesn’t mean Manny and CB don’t try from time to time, especially if there is something oily that they can lick! Which is why there is a screen door on the kitchen…
Cupcake, you are adorable! I hope you’ve been working on your ‘public’ name, something fierce to use when you are out and about!
You are the best counter argument we’ve ever seen Cupcake!
Lovely art of Cupcake, and it looks like she is admiring it.
We’re not supposed to go on counters, but we do it from time to time. Good job snoopervising ! Purrs
The only time we can’t get on the counter is when the mom is cooking. We don’t know why…we think we could be a big help for her.
Mudpie loves the kitchen counter but not when I’m cooking, for some reason. Cupcake looks like a pawsome sous chef (not to mention the cutest!)
Right after I brought Bear inside, he ran across a stove on high because I was dumping hot grease into a container and my ex-husband wasn’t paying attention. I was so incredibly mad at my ex. Poor guy’s back paw pads burned onto the stove – and the next morning, he was really hurting. I took him to the vet. Because of this, I want him to stay off the counters – but he has his own ideas. No matter what I’ve tried … he still does it – I’m pretty sure just to prove he can.
I never would’ve thought that I might be able to jump on the counters. And now that we no longer have a dawg we don’t need to keep our food dishes up high. So there seems to be no need to jump up on the counters for me, anyway. I am happy to keep my food and water dishes on the floor.
Oh my goodness. Like lots of other kitties, I’m allowed on the counters only when Mom is not making food. For everyone’s safety she prefers I stay out of the kitchen (not even on the floor) when she’d cooking.
