As I mentioned in my previous post, the night before hurricane Irma was due, after the veterinarians and even the nearby veterinary emergency center had closed for the storm, Cupcake started acting strangely. She would play as normal, but whenever she wasn’t distracted, she would make funny faces and paw her own mouth.
Since she eats raw food that includes ground bone, my first thought was she had a bone chip between her teeth. There wasn’t going to be any professional help figuring this out, so I had to take a look myself.
Cupcake: I don’t want to open up!
After some false starts since Cupcake really, really didn’t want to open up, we spotted blood all around the base of one of her premolars. That got us in the right general area to try to figure out what was going on.
The next step was to try to get a better look at that tooth to see if there was a piece of ground bone stuck next to it. Before we could do that, Cupcake shook her way free of the unwelcome attention.
Then she spit something onto the ground. On closer inspection, it was her tooth!
Cats start to lose their primary teeth around 1 weeks, and they finish with their adult teeth around week 24. Cupcake is right around 24 weeks, so this should be the last of premolars to fall out.
Cupcake stopped pawing at her mouth and obviously felt better as soon as the loose tooth was out of her mouth, so there want’s any need for her to go to the vet after all. All’s well that ends well, and we won’t forget about kitten baby teeth again!
Have you ever seen your kitty’s baby teeth fall out?

My human got me when I was just a little over 5 months old, but sadly, she didn’t get any remaining baby teeth I may have had. You are lucky!
Oh my goodness! I’ve never had a proper kitten (Avery was around teenage years when we got him) so I didn’t realize their teeth came out like this! Such cute little things, I’d definitely have a collection of baby teeth if I’d had Avery back then!
I do not remember ever seeing Angel or Chuck’s baby teeth, but I certainly felt them (as they chomped on everything…)! We didn’t know ANYTHING about kittens or cats 13 years ago; we are lucky that we didn’t do serious harm to either of them in our ignorance. Glad that Cupcake seems to be feeling better!
Glad that’s all it was! We had two of ours since kittenhood, but I don’t recall ever seeing teeth fall out.
That’s scary for me !
Kudos to you, Cupcake
=^x^=
at least it was an easy fix. when our foster Bourbon was a kitten, his adult fangs grew in right behind his baby fangs…mom was freaking out at first but after a couple of days the baby fangs finally fell out. (while nomming on the mom of course)
Poor Cupcake! Two is the youngest I’ve adopted a cat, so I’ve never seen baby teeth fall out.
Our mom had several of our old bro Eddie’s baby teeth but they were stolen when her house was robbed eons ago (she’d kept them in a jewelry box). William probably dropped a few but Mom never found them. Everyone else was older when we joined the family.
I have a couple of Wally’s baby teeth that I found after they fell out. ~Island Cat mom
cupcake; make sure ta put that tooth under yur bed N in de morn
it will haz terned it self inta 50’s and 100’s !!!
🙂 ♥♥
I found my Kotoha hast summer when she was just two weeks old (I had to bottle feed her at first). I haven’t had a kitten for as long as I can remember – all the cats we’ve adopted have been older, except for my daughter’s cat, Arata (he just turned 4 and she adopted him when he was 4-5 months old). I never saw any of his baby teeth fall out, and he never showed any signs like yours. My Kotoha, however, was one I watched much more closely – especially after bottle feeding her, I was always checking her to make sure everything was okay and that she was getting enough kitten milk. When she started getting her top adult fangs, the baby ones were still there and for a while she had double fangs on top (I was able to get a photo – it looks cool). As each of her baby fangs fell out, I never saw them – until the last one, which I was able to save. It’s the only baby tooth I have from any of my furbabies.
Oh, poor sweetie, we are happy that you are feeling better without that baby tooth flopping around in there anymore. Our Mom has one of our baby teefs that she found on the floor, but as to who it actually belongs to is a mystery.
Oh so sorry for you sweet Cupcake.
We didn’t know about this. We got Buster at 5 months old.
Unfortunately for TW I already had all my teeth when I moved here. Heh heh. She sometimes wishes they’d fall out but not really. She never noticed if Faith or Chizzy lost teeth.
Glad she feels better as that is most impawtent. We all have lost our teeth years ago and Dad never found any. Sigh
I’m glad everything came out okay beautiful Cupcake!
Oh wow! We didn’t realize kittens lost their baby teeth. We weren’t kittens when our mom adopted us, so she has not baby teeth. We hope you got lots of catnip from the tooth fairy.
The first cat I owned on my own was a wild boy. He would attack us in play quite hard and one time he left a canine behind. I nearly panicked as I held it in my hand trying to figure out what it was and then how I was going to put it back (I was 19) but I realized he was basically a toddler and he might lose his teeth, and it turned out that was what it was. So few people see them that you were mighty lucky.
I hope the Tooth Fairy brings her something nice..
I have a kitten tooth from my first cat, Felix. He’s been gone for many years, but I have it taped to a 3×5 card.
Claire has kitten teeth from Angel Loupi and Angel Céleste. We’re glad you’re feeling better, Cupcake, and we hope the Tooth Fairy brings you something nice ! Purrs
I don’t have any kitten teeth but I have a fang from my last girlkitty that she lost at about 14 years old. Plus I have plenty of claw sheaths as they shed those.
I had a cardboard wine box I used to keep Eric and Flynn’s toys in. They used to keep chewing on it and I found several teeth in and around it. They joined the family when they were 5 1/2 weeks old so must have been nearer 8 weeks when they were losing their baby teeth.
