The head peep is back from BarkWorld Expo. It was a chaotic few days, and we’re here to bring you some cat-related highlights of the event.
One of the four keynote sessions featured Tom Otto and Shaun Sears, who rescue cats from trees with their Canopy Cat Rescue organization. You may have seen them on their Animal Planet program, Treetop Cat Rescue. The two of them talked about rescuing cats, and they showed videos of various rescues that showed both how much they clearly love cats and also how much they understand them.
After hearing the stereotype of cat ladies for far too long, listening to these two men talk about understanding the difference in the kind of meows different cats make was incredibly refreshing. They explained how they are often rescuing the freaking out humans on the ground as much as they are the cats stuck in the trees. They also took extra time to explain a little bit about the mechanics that go into rescuing a cat so high up above solid ground.
After the first day of sessions, someone very special came to visit the cat bloggers attending the conference: Sophie from Kitty Cat Chronicles.
She demonstrated how her string toy is her favorite thing ever.
With everyone having been away from home and not having seen their own cats in a day, Sophie was the center of everyone’s attention.
The second day of the conference included a separate breakfast for cat influences. It was hosted by our friends Francois and Olivia from meowbox! Not only was there swag for all of the cat attendees, there was a drawing for three mega-meowboxes, and the head peep won one of them!
Olivia personalized our new meowbox on the spot by writing our names inside the lid. That’s something they do for every single meowbox, and Olivia said that they will continue to personalize every meowbox like that no matter how big they get.
At breakfast, she met another kitty, named Hoss Cartwright. He was the only cat attending seen at the conference among all of the dogs there. His human is a pet sitter, and it was clear from the well-loved condition of his rolling carrier that Hoss gets out to visit his friends a lot in it.
The head peep left Atlanta when the conference was over and was on the road about 6:00 at night. She didn’t want to wait to get home to us, so she drove straight through to get home around midnight here in Florida, exhausted, but happy to see us. For her, getting home to us may have been her biggest kitty highlight of the weekend. (It better have been!)

We’ve heard such great things about the Canopy Cat Rescue guys! That would have been a huge highlight for us too. We hadn’t even thought about how much rescuing the worried humans would need too!
Congrats on winning that awesome MeowBox! Certainly that must make up for the head peep’s time away.
We wish we could have attended, but are so happy to read your recap. Awesome photos too!
The one thing my human really missed about not attending Barkworld was seeing the Canopy Cat Rescue guys – and if she’d known Sophie was going to stop by, she would have wanted to be part of that too! And I’m bummed because clearly cats were sorely underrepresented onsite! I should have been there, but I couldn’t be two places at once, and I had somewhere else I had to be.
Those TreeTop guys are great! They would have been worth seeing, the mom says. She’s sorry she didn’t get to go because she sure would have liked to see your head peep and the other cat peeps that were there.
Paws up your head peep winning a MeowBox! But you guys are the ones that really won. ๐
Seeing those two that rescue cats must have been so great. Glad the Mom got home to all of you that night and that you won a meow box. What fun is that?? You all have a great day.
Mom Paula said the best part of the conference was spending time with the other cat peeps and getting to know your mom better! The Canopy Cat guys were great! Our mom got home a little after 9:00 pm. thank you for a great time.
What an amazing event! And look at the goodies you guys will be getting now ๐
Had a feeling BW wasn’t a resounding success because the tweets from the cat peeps were virtually non-existent….glad you were able to make your own good time though!!!!!!!
Wow, that was one dedicated mom to come right home to you. Great write up! Sounds like it was a blast!
Mom says it was great seeing the head peep and Miss Paula. Those cat guys rocked!!

So happy to get your kitty perspective from BarkWorld. I’m a big fan of the Treetop Rescue show and would have loved to meet the guys. If you have their contact info, please email me. Glad you’re back home safe and sound.
Wow! I got stuck way up in a tree then I was only a baby (before my mom rescued me). I could have used those Canopy guys!
Must have been some fun time at the conference. You were very generous to let your mom attend.
Sounds like there were a few cat highlights. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for sharing about the event. I am glad the peeps got home safely from the blog paws event.

Congrats on the win.. totally awesome.
It sounds as if this year’s Barkworld was well worth going. Mom was not that impressed with last year so decided to pass this year. Sounds as if that was a mistake. She wants to know if you got your Sprinkle’s cupcakes? XOCK, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth & Calista Jo
