Today is a special day, because it is Specially-Abled Pets Day.
There are a lot of cats who don’t look perfect on the outside. Ashton has a permanent wink instead of two bright eyes.
Cousin Earl hops instead of walks because he has three legs instead of four.
Other cats may not see at all, or they may not be able to hear. But every single one of them has the thing that it takes to be great companions and love you. They have big hearts!
So when it’s time to look for a new family member, don’t overlook cats who look a little different or are a little unusual. Many cats are different but don’t require extra care or expense, and they will bring you a lifetime of love.
Do you know any specially-abled cats?
Summer says
Ashton, you are one of my favorite specially-abled cats! You and my pal Sophie from Kitty Cat Chronicles.

Ashton, you already know I am a great fan of yours. And those babies who are specially-abled are always loved by my momma.

Kitties Blue says
We know lovely CH kitty, Sophie, from Kitty Cat Chronicles. Mom has been carrying around a copy of Rescued 2 to various appointments, and everyone comments on how lovely Ashton is, and Mom always says that she knows her and tells everyone her name. She’s becoming famous vicariously. XOCK, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Angel Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth, Calista Jo and Cooper Murphy
Maxwell, Faraday & Allie says
You betcha! We’re different, but not “LESS” anything!

Melissa & Mudpie says
You’re so right! Up until Truffles and Mudpie I’d always adopted middle-aged to senior kitties because they are overlooked too. The love they give is just as great though.
Roberta Diamond says
Ashton, my Joey is like you. He is blind in one eye, but that doesn’t matter. You would not find a sweeter, more loving cat. He is not “specially-abled”, he is just special!!
The Swiss Cats says
Beautiful post ! We love the word “specially-abled” instead of “disabled” ! Purrs
The Island Cats says
Specially-abled animals are extra special!
William's Kith & Kin says
Ashton, you’re the cutest specially-abled kid we know!
Cindy Grant says
I love that you used the word specially-abled pets. I think all pets deserve our love. Specially-abled ones even need it more because they have more difficulties in their lives.
Connie says
There is also Odi, the kitty with no eyes 🙂
kitties with internal issues often get overlooked due to extra costs. Diabetics are usually last to get adopted. FeLV, FIV, Urinary issues, thyroid issues, the cats are still lovely cats that have love to give.
emma and buster says
Oh we love every kitty. Ashton you are a role model.
Eric and Alastor says
I have a one eyed pal named Al. I wasn’t planning on getting another cat, but I couldn’t leave him, he needed someone. Took him two months to come out from under my bed, but now he’s one of the most important parts of my life. Specially abled pets have so much love to give, it gets me emotional seeing other people advocating for them. Thank you!
