In Memoriam: Pierre

I’m sad to have to share the news of my beloved Pierre’s death. He died at home, in my arms. His congestive heart failure was too much, and it was time.

Saying  goodbye to him was also the most difficult thing I’ve ever done in my life, even though I know it was the kindest thing I could do. I don’t believe in the rainbow bridge concept — I find it disturbing and not the least bit comforting. But I do take some comfort in knowing I did everything I could to love him and give him the best life I could. And I didn’t let him suffer from something he could not understand because I could not explain.

I am heartbroken. The pillow he slept on next to mine is empty. The red dot that lives on the sofa is lonely.

I miss him chirping and rolling for attention on my desk as I sit and look at the computer monitor like I am right now. No cat will sit in my lap now or on my shoulders, and my lap is cold.

I miss his expressions. He had the most expressive eyes of any cat I have ever known, and he could say volumes with a look.

I miss Pierre very much, but I was privileged to share my life with him. And to share him with all of you. Thank you all for loving him, too.

Chicken Emporium is Open

Ashton: Just a few final touches. My first chicken emporium stand is ready to open! I just need to run to the litter box first.

Newton: I can watch the stand while you take care of business in the litter box, Ash.

Ashton: If you’re sure. No sampling the inventory!

Newton: Sure, whatever you say.

Newton: Did you believe she would ever open this? I didn’t.

Cupcake: What are you doing, Mr. Newton?

Newton: I’m watching Ashton’s new chicken stand.

Cupcake: Chicken! I like chicken!

Newton: You might not want to do that, kid.

Ashton: Hey! No sampling my inventory! What did I tell you, Newton? I have to clean this up! Why don’t you two go wrestle somewhere else?

Ashton: My inventory is a mess! I need to tidy up before more customers get here.

Tea Party

Cupcake: Welcome to my tea party! Would you like a cup of chicken tea?

Newton: I don’t think chicken tea is a real thing.

Cupcake: It is so! Ashton gave me her recipe. Taste and you’ll see.

Newton: Yum! This tastes like chicken!

Newton: *slurp* Oops!

Newton: Umm…Can you pour some more for me?

Holiday Outtakes

We have outtakes from our recent visit with Santa! He sat right down on the floor to be at our level like a smart cat elf.

But when Santa tried to pick Newton up, Newt  ducked under his arm.

Santa tried the same thing with Cupcake. Cupcake had other ideas.

But Santa held on, even though Cupcake thought she had other places to be.

Finally, Newton tried to use his glorious tail to hide Cupcake’s embarrassment.

Let’s just say we’re glad this guy isn’t coming around again for at least a year!

This is part of the Pet Photo Fails blog hop today.
