We got a new toy!
Pierre: Step back, Newton, I’ve got this one.
Watch out, butterfly, I’m after you.
Come down here! You look tasty!
What? It’s time to rest. I’m all worn out now. You would be, too, if you conquered cat toys.
There was a question in the comments a couple days ago about the big clam on the low shelf in the sunroom, and there’s a little story about it can go along with our flashback Friday this week.
As most of you know, when Ashton was a kitten, she came to us pretty badly injured, and she lived in a cage in the sunroom so she could get better without the big cats bothering her.
In the background of that photo is the big clam. It was a novelty lamp that someone had given the peeps and they hadn’t really used. You can’t read by it, so it’s just something to look at.
Well, Newton liked to watch over Ashton, and so did the head peep. She would get up several times a night to make sure Ash was doing all right.
When she got up, she would always trip over Newton, who would be watching over his new friend. All of the commotion would wake up Ashton, and nobody wanted to trip over Newton to begin with, so she started to leave the shell light turned on all night.
Eventually, Newton figured out that he could watch over Ashton from more out-of-the-way places.
And the shell light was put on a timer. It still serves as a “cat night light” to this day, even though we all know that cats don’t need night lights. They’re really for peeps.
As you can see, young Ashton grew up buddies with the shell lamp. It has been her companion almost her whole life.
(Also, for those who asked, the shelf it’s on is from IKEA, with pull-out baskets. We promise we aren’t going to do a whole post about the shelf, too, unless we’re allowed to visit and make a commercial for them like this one.)
Today is the day that those of us in this part of the world pause to give thanks for all of the things we have.
Newton: I’m thankful for my Ess.
Pierre: I’m thankful for peeps who give us scritches and cuddles.
Ashton: I’m thankful for dinner.
Pierre: I don’t think that’s what you’re supposed to say, Ashton. You should say that you’re thankful to have a warm, safe home with peeps who love you, and that you’re thankful for having brothers like Newton and me. Especially that.
Ashton: You are so bossy. Well, I really am thankful for dinner. And breakfast. And snacks, too.
We are also very thankful for all of you, our friends all around the world. Thank you for sharing a few minutes of your day with us. We are truly thankful to know all of you.
Happy Thanksgiving from all of us!
